Today a cornerstone in The Italian Market, the retail market  services  our neighbors as well as loyal second and third generation customers who travel to the Italian Market to shop with local chefs for restaurant quality products at value pricing.
In its third generation, Esposito’s operation has grown from a storefront butcher shop in 1911, to be proudly regarded as a Philadelphia institution.  We are continuing our commitment to sustainability while reducing our impact on the environment.  Improving our social performance with alliances to a network of food vendors, that believes in naturally grown and minimal processed raw products. Our current sales include our retail customers, as well as restaurants, caterers, country clubs, and other foodservice establishments and distributors in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.  For three generations our growth has been achieved through one satisfied customer sharing their experience with another.

A. Esposito Inc. | 1001 South 9th Street | Philadelphia PA 19147

In 1911, as a young immigrant, Attilio Esposito and his family opened a butcher shop in a storefront property at 1009 South 9th Street, believing that success was built on consistently offering quality products.  After a few years of loyal customer support, Attilio purchased the corner property at 1001 South 9th Street, expanding his operation to include a slaughterhouse in the 1920’s.  As his sons, Louis and Attilio, followed into the family business, they began traveling the country to purchase live cattle ensuring their customers of the finest quality meats.  In the late 1960’s, Louis Esposito acquired the adjacent property on Carpenter Street, and additional refrigerated warehouses and dry storage buildings across the street, expanding the product line to include lamb, pork, and poultry.
Growing with the demands of the restaurant renaissance of the 1970’s, Louis’ sons, Lee and Louis Jr., changed the venue to specialize in fresh portion cut meat products.  Offering to custom cut and package each meat order to the restaurant’s specifications caught on quickly. The former slaughterhouse became the setting for expert portion control cutting and state of the art packaging equipment. The operation expanded to include ,  seafood, gourmet specialty, and game items. The diversity of our wholesale customer base, and approach to the custom hand cutting and packaging of our products has helped to improve the operating cost, as well as safe food handling in today’s working environment. The longevity of our employees ensures that our apprentices have the best training resources along side the understanding of the company’s original commitment. While ensuring the continuation of the founding principals, integrity and value, we are responsive to the changing market needs and trends for a growing partnership with our customer base. Our USDA inspected facility has had an external Audit rating of 95% or higher over the last five years; this along with our GMP and HACCP procedures ensures our strict standards remain intact.
